Axisflying Introduces Manta 5 SE Squashed X with Modified DJI O4 Lite
Freestyle Setup with Modified O4 Lite
Hello everyone! Axisflying, a well-known company in the hobby, like many leading developers, has begun integrating the DJI O4 system into its production solutions. The first in line is the newly released 5-inch drone series "Manta 5 SE Squashed X". Thus, versions "Analog" and "DJI O3" are joined by "DJI O4 Air Unit Lite," where "DJI O4 Lite" is a modified junior version of the DJI Innovations O4 Air Unit digital FPV video system, engineered by Axisflying.
The developer positions the Manta 5 SE Squashed X as an "entry-level" drone, mainly aimed at beginners. Let's dive in!
Frame and Electronics
The model is built on a proprietary impact-resistant X-shaped carbon fiber frame (T700 carbon fiber), with a diagonal size of 223 mm and beam thickness of 5.5 mm. It optionally uses one of two possible AIO flight controllers: Axisflying Argus ECO FC F405 or F722, working in tandem with 4-in-1 Bluejay 8-bit 60A ESCs.
Power System
The power system consists of four Axisflying AE2207 V2 1960KV brushless motors, working with 5.1-inch propellers. The developer recommends using a 6S LiPo battery with a capacity of 1050-1300 mAh and an XT60 connector.
Video System
The Manta 5 SE Squashed X uses a modified junior version of the DJI O4 Air Unit digital FPV video system, engineered by Axisflying. Key improvements include a highly efficient heatsink for excess heat dissipation, lighter camera mounting, increased distance between the camera and the main component, and the addition of an ND filter option.
Practice has shown that due to the lack of any passive (or active) ventilation, the original junior version of the O4 Air Unit from DJI heats up quite quickly.
About the Heatsink
To improve heat dissipation, Axisflying offers an aluminum (6061) case measuring 33.5×33.5×9 mm, weighing 8.7 grams, with M2 25.5×25.5 mm mounting holes. This upgrade can be purchased separately. The kit includes key components and thermal paste. Price directly from Axisflying: $12 (excluding taxes and shipping).
About the Camera Cases
Since the small 14-mm bracket supplied by DJI is not compatible with frames adapted for the DJI O3 system, Axisflying offers its own 14-mm aluminum case measuring 16.6×15×18.5 mm and weighing 3.1 grams. This upgrade can be purchased separately. The kit also includes thermal paste. Price directly from Axisflying: $12 (excluding taxes and shipping).
A 20-millimeter nylon case (19×20×19 mm, 3 grams) is also offered for mounting the camera on larger frames. Price with thermal paste directly from Axisflying: $5 (excluding taxes and shipping).
About the Coaxial Cable
The length of the basic extended cable from Axisflying is 5 cm. A 13-centimeter option is also available. Price directly from Axisflying: $13 (excluding taxes and shipping).
About ND Filters
Since an ND filter is an essential attribute of any photo/video system in excessive light, Axisflying offers a set of 4 filters: ND4, ND8, ND16, and ND32, specifically designed for the Axisflying DJI O4 Air Unit Lite camera module. Price directly from the developer: $14 (excluding taxes and shipping).
Receiver
The developer optionally offers one of two pre-installed receivers: ExpressLRS 2.4 GHz or Crossfire Nano RX from TBS. A receiverless setup is also possible (in this case, the DJI O4 Air Unit system compatible with the DJI FPV RC 3 control unit will act as the receiver).
Availability and Price
The Manta 5 SE Squashed X DJI O4 Air Unit Lite-6S, depending on the chosen receiver and GPS module, costs from $319 to $359 directly from Axisflying (excluding taxes and shipping).
That's all for now. Let us know in the comments below what you think about the upgrade of the latest Manta 5 SE Squashed X drone series with the modified DJI O4 Lite FPV system from Axisflying.
